This is a very special and unique building in Heraklion city.
The Museum of Burial History is located in the old cemetery of Saints Constantine & Helen. It was built in 1890 and it is worth to mention that the first wedding of Nikos Kazantzakis took place there.
The building, initially used as an ossuary, stopped being used when the new ossuary of Heraklion was constructed. In the mean time it became severely damaged and would have been almost completely destroyed,if a small group of people would not get together and act towards its restoration.
Since 2015, when the building was restored, the visitor can enjoy a collection of burial artifacts since the Minoan times, and a wood carving workshop.
At the basement, there is a wood carving work shop.
At the ground floor, a number of temple objects are placed.
At the first floor, the visitors can see burial artifacts showcasing the evolution of burial in Crete since the Minoan times.
The entrance is free
